Coming and going…

The last couple of weeks have been full of comings and goings. Some families are enrolling in daycare for the first time, others are moving on to kindergarten. We want to make wise decisions about our child’s care, based on facts and good advice. (Seriously, raise your hand if you have Googled ‘what to ask when touring a daycare center.’) But, at the end of the day, it’s our hearts we have to listen to. And, the hearts of our kids. It’s an emotional time for a school and, more importantly, for a family. No amount of wisdom or advice can change how we feel.

Either coming or going, it’s important to honor where you’ve been and where you’re going. At Oak Lane, we have a tradition of making a little photo album for our graduating kiddos — with pictures from their first year here all the way through preschool. For new families, we post a picture of family members in a child’s new cubby. Because, it’s not just where you’ve been that’s important, it’s who you’ve been there with.

I am honored when a parent chooses Oak Lane for their little one — for their whole family, really. What a precious gift you have decided to share with us — the opportunity to be companions on your family’s journey. And, when the journey leads to a new school, it’s both happy and sad for our whole community. So, here’s to comings and goings…for the blessing of being part of a family’s journey. And, here’s to honoring a whole rainbow of emotions, during this time of year and any other.
